St Paul's to Smithfield

From severed heads on spikes at Temple Bar through gallows at Newgate to brutal executions at Smithfield, this tour takes you on a grizzly journey around some of the City's less savoury sights. Starting at the City's most iconic symbol, St Pauls, this tour takes you into the haunted environs of Christchurch, past the watchtower of St Sepulchre without Newgate, which was erected to prevent bodies being snatched for nearby St Bartolomew's Hospital and onto the site of the execution of the William Wallace and the Protestant Martyrs.

Along the way you will hear about the jousting knights who were the footballers of their day, see England's most famous court house, mark the spot where the Great Fire of London (1666) finally stopped and check out the site of one of the City's most celebrated fairs.

Starting Point: 1 - Outside the City Information Centre (south side of St Paul's Cathedral)
